Hi I’m Kell, welcome to my site!
I specialise in fine art photography of our beautiful and unique Australian native plants.
I also enjoy photographing street scenes, candid portraits, and local landmarks for sharing with future generations.
I’ve been taking photographs since I was about 8, and started using a SLR film camera twenty years ago whilst at high school in the Perth hills.
In 1999 I was in the 10% of applicants successful at gaining a place to study Photography at Central TAFE’s Mt Lawley campus. This was a very competitive and well respected course, second only to that on offer at Melbourne’s RMIT. At the time I was particularly interested in black and white portraiture using high speed film.
I returned to study in 2010, completing my Diploma of Photoimaging at Central Institute of Technology. I wanted to learn product and food photography, but found myself drawn to photo documentary and journalistic style portraiture instead, as well as perfecting my very artistic and somewhat unique approach to nature photography.
I created Blackcurrant Photography in July 2010 and until recently sold my work via Etsy, Redbubble, and my own website. Due to family commitments, I ceased trading at the end of November 2016.
I continue to document my everyday life, and the beauty of Australia’s native flora via my blog and Instagram.
I hope you enjoy viewing my body of work.
At this point in time I am not offering my photographs for sale, however you are more than welcome to contact me with questions you may have about my work.
I am currently located in South Australia.
